Happy birthday, Reginald Arvizu...
Born Reginald Quincy Arvizu on November 2 1969 in Los Angeles County, California, US, Reginald Arvizu is a musician best known as the bassist of Korn.
He met future Korn bandmates Brian Welch and James Shaffer while in high school and played in several bands with them. After graduating from high school in 1989, James Shaffer and Reginald formed the band L.A.P.D., whose name originally standed for Love and Peace Dude, also the title of their debut EP released the same year, but later became Laughing As People Die.
The band's only studio album, Who's Laughing Now, was released in 1991.
After struggling with their lineup and the bad distribution of their album, L.A.P.D. broke up in 1992. However, in 1993, alongside former L.A.P.D. members James Shaffer and David Silveria, Reginald hired Jonathan Davis and his schoolfriend Brian Welch to form the band Korn. After forming Korn, Reginald took the stage name Fieldy, Brian Welch took the name Head, and James Shaffer Munky, only Jonathan Davis and David Silveria kept their real names (lineup: Jonathan Davis (vocals), Brian "Head" Welch (lead guitar, backing vocals), James "Munky" Shaffer (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu (bass), David Silveria (drums, percussion)).
Later in 1993, Korn recorded and released a demo tape called Neidermayer's Mind. The tape wasn't really appreciated by the critics and only a very limited amount of copies were released. Nevertheless, it is now considered as a pioneer album in nu metal.
In October 1994, Korn released their self-titled debut album which received much better critics than Neidermayer's Mind.
The tour promoting the album wasn't very successful, however, in early 1995 they toured with Sick of It All, and later the same year, along with Deftones, they supported Ozzy Osbourne. The tour with Ozzy Osbourne gave the band good exposure, and their album went gold before the end of the tour.
Following that success, the band decided to start working on a second album, Life Is Peachy. Released in October 1996, the album reached number 3 on the Billboard 200 although the songs had been rarely played on radios or on television.
The following year, Korn headlined the Lollapalooza music festival with Tool but they had to cancel the end of their tour after James Shaffer fell ill and was diagnosed with viral meningitis.
The recording of their third album in 1998 was filmed and aired on a weekly online TV show produced by the band, KornTV. This allowed the fans to see the making of the record and also to call to ask questions to the band members. The album, Follow the Leader, was released in August 1998, featured performances from guests such as Fred Durst, and Ice Cube, and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. During the tour promoting the album, the band organized conferences during which they met their fans and answered their questions.
The first single of Korn's fourth album, Falling Away from Me, premiered on October 27 1999 in South Park's episode Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery in which the band makes a guest appearance.
On November 15 1999, one day before the release of Issues, Korn performed the album in its entirety at the Apollo Theater in New York City.
In 2000, in order to express his love for hip-hop music, Reginald started working on a project called Fieldy's Dreams. He eventually released a rap album, Rock'n Roll Gangster, in 2002.
In the spring of 2001, Korn entered the studio to begin writing their new album, Untouchables. However, tensions between the members delayed the work and it was in a tense and hostile atmosphere that the album was recorded some weeks later.
Three months before the official release of the album, an unmastered version was leaked but it didn't prevent the album from debuting at number 2 on the Billboard 200 in June 2002 after being officially released by the band. Because of his drug abuse, Reginald almost got fired from Korn during the tour promoting the album but his bandmates eventually decided to keep him.
The following year, Korn released the album Take a Look in the Mirror which didn't sell as well as the previous ones and only reached number 9 on the Billboard 200. The album's first single, Did My Time, was released in July 2003 and featured in the movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which premiered on July 21 2003.
In October 2004, Korn released their first compilation album, Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 , which featured a cover of Cameo's Word Up!, a cover of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall, and songs from Korn's six studio albums from the most recent to the oldest.
In December 2005, they released See You on the Other Side, their first album without guitarist Brian "Head" Welch and last one with drummer David Silveria. The album was certified platinum in the US 3 months after its released.
The following year, with rapper Q-Unique, bassist Pablo "Spider" Silva, and drummer Noah "Wuv" Bernardo, Reginald formed the band StillWell, in which he played the guitar. The band's debut single, Killing Myself to Live, was released in October 2007.
In July 2007, Korn released an untitled album, which is sometimes refered to as Untitled or Korn II although Jonathan Davis declared that the fans were free to call it whatever they wanted, which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200. The drums on the album were performed by session drummers Terry Bozzio and Brooks Wackerman. Joey Jordison performed the drums during Korn's shows until they were joined by Ray Luzier.
In 2009, Reginald released his autobiography, Got The Life: My Journey of Addiction, Faith, Recovery and Korn.
The following year, Korn released the album Korn III: Remember Who You Are and toured the world during their headline tour Ballroom Blitz Tour and the Music as a Weapon V tour which they co-headlined with Disturbed.
After postponing all the time the recording of their album due to Reginald being busy with Korn, StillWell finally released their debut album, Dirtbag, in May 2011.
In 2012, Korn won the Album of the Year Golden Gods Award for their album The Path of Totality (2011).
In August the same year, Reginald took a short break from Korn to stay with his wife during his pregnancy. Ryan Martinie filled in for him in Korn at that time.
In October 2013, Korn released The Paradigm Shift, their eleventh album (lineup: Jonathan Davis (lead vocals), Brian "Head" Welch (lead guitar, backing vocals), James "Munky" Shaffer (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu (bass), Ray Luzier (drums)).
StillWell's second album, Raise It Up, was released in November 2015.
In October 2016, Korn released the album The Serenity of Suffering, which debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200. The band will be touring in the UK,in Europe and in South America through December 2016, and March and April 2017.
