Happy birthday, Mikkey Dee...
Born Micael Kiriakos Delaoglou on October 31 1963 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Mikkey Dee is a musician best known for having been Motörhead's drummer for 23 years.
Influenced by drummers such as Ian Paice, Neil Peart and Steve Smith, he first played in local bands before moving to Copenhagen, Denmark, to play in a band called Geisha.
In 1985, he joined King Diamond, a band formed by former Mercyful Fate members King Diamond, Michael Denner and Timi Hansen (King Diamond's lineup: King Diamond (vocals, keyboards), Andy LaRocque (guitars, keyboards), Michael Denner (guitars), Timi Hansen (bass), Mikkey Dee (drums)). In July the same year, the band went to the Sound Track Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark, to begin recording their debut album.
Their debut single, No Presents for Christmas, was released on December 25 1985. They released their debut album, Fatal Portrait, a couple of months later, on February 17 1986.
Their second album, Abigail, was released in October 1987 and was also their first concept album and first album to chart in the US, reaching number 123 on the Billboard 200. While on tour to promote the album, they recorded the live album In Concert 1987: Abigail, which was released in 1990.
With the release of another concept album, Them (1988), King Diamond (the singer) was becoming more and more popular and sort of started to make his bandmates appear only as backing musicians instead of full members of the band. Tired of not being treated as an equal, Mikkey decided to leave the band in 1988, after the end of the tour promoting Them. He was however hired as a session drummer for King Diamond's 1989 album Conspiracy (lineup before Mikkey's departure: King Diamond (vocals, keyboards), Andy LaRocque (guitars, keyboards), Pete Blakk (guitars), Hal Patino (bass), Mikkey Dee (drums)).
Following his departure from King Diamond, Mikkey went to America to play on Don Dokken's debut solo album, Up from the Ashes, which was released in 1990 (lineup: Don Dokken (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar), John Norum (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Billy White (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Peter Baltes (bass, acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Mikkey Dee (drums)). After a headline tour and a tour supporting Judas Priest, Mikkey decided to leave Don Dokken's band.
In 1992, after being asked once again by Lemmy, who had been wanting him to join the band since Motörhead toured with King Diamond, to join Motörhead, Mikkey finally accepted and joined the band as Phil Taylor's replacement (lineup: Lemmy (lead vocals, bass), Phil Campbell (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Würzel (lead guitar, rhythm guitar), Mikkey Dee (drums, percussion)).
He joined just in time to record one song (Hellraiser) on the album March ör Die (1992) which featured one song recorded with Phil Taylor and all the other songs recorded with Tommy Aldridge. Mikkey's first show with the band was at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, New York, on August 30 1992. Motörhead then went on to play shows with bands such as Exodus, Skew Siskin, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N' Roses, Saxon...
Back from tour, the band began to record a new album, Bastards, which was released on November 29 1993. To promote the album, the band toured in Europe in December the same year.
On May 14 1994, Motörhead played a show with the Ramones in front of an audience of 50 000 people at the Estadio Velez in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The following year, while on tour with Black Sabbath and Tiamat, the band members fell ill and decided to go back to Los Angeles where they started to work on a new album. During the recording, they decided Würzel should leave the band, which he did after the album was recorded. After the release of the album, Sacrifice, in July 1995, Motörhead decided to go on as a three-man lineup and embarked on a European tour to promote the album.
In December 1995, the band celebrated Lemmy's 50th birthday by playing a show at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles with Metallica playing under the name The Lemmy's.
In October 1996, they released the album Overnight Sensation and toured the US with Belladonna and Speedball until December 4.
After touring the world in 1997, Motörhead entered the studio in early 1998 to start recording a new album. Snake Bite Love was released on March 10 1998 and followed by a tour during which the band played at The Docks in Hamburg, Germany on May 21 and recorded the show for the live album Everything Louder than Everyone Else, which was released in March 1999.
In 2000, the band released the album We Are Motörhead, which featured a cover of the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen, and played a concert on October 22 at the Brixton Academy in London to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary. The show featured guest appearances by Brian May, Eddie Clarke, Whitfield Crane, Doro Pesch, Paul Inder and Todd Campbell, and was also filmed and released in 2001 as the DVD 25 & Alive Boneshaker. A live album from the show, Live at Brixton Academy, was also released in 2003.
In 2003, Mikkey played the drums on Helloween's album Rabbit Don't Come Easy.
In 2005, Motörhead were the subject of the documentary Live Fast, Die Old, which was aired on Channel 4 on August 22.
In April 2006, Mikkey reunited with King Diamond at a sold out show in Gothenburg, Sweden.
In 2007, Motörhead released the two-disc compilation album The Essential Motörhead, and the live album Better Motörhead than Dead: Live at Hammersmith, which had been recorded on June 16 2005 during the band's 30th anniversary show at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.
The following year, in August, they performed on the Metal Masters Tour alongside Judas Priest, Heaven & Hell, and Testament.
In December 2010, Motörhead released their 20th studio album, The Wörld Is Yours. A month before the release of the album, the band had gone on a 35th anniversary UK and European Tour.
During the three years that followed, the band kept on touring but in 2013, after the release of the album Aftershock in October, they had to reschedule and cancel shows because of Lemmy's health problems. They eventually resumed touring, playing first at the Coachella Festival in April 2014.
The band's final album, Bad Magic, was released on August 28 2015, two months after they had performed at Glastonbury Festival, in what ended up being their last UK performance.
The band's 40th anniversary tour scheduled for late 2015 was disturbed by Lemmy's health problems but they eventually managed to play some shows in Europe in November and December. The band's final show took place in Berlin, Germany, on December 11 2015. The tour was supposed to continue in the UK in January 2016 but after Lemmy passed away on December 28 2015, Phil Campbell and Mikkey agreed to break Motörhead up.
In January 2016, it was announced that Mikkey would play with Thin Lizzy for their anniversary shows but it finally did not happen. However, he filled in for James Kottak for 12 North American dates with Scorpions.
On September 12 2016, Mikkey became an official member of Scorpions (lineup: Klaus Meine (lead vocals), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar, backing vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Paweł Mąciwoda (bass, backing vocals), Mikkey Dee (drums)).

Cepedant, il remplace James Kottak pour 12 dates en Amérique du Nord avec Scorpions.
