Happy birthday, Wednesday 13...
Born Joseph Poole on August 12 1976 in Lexington, North Carolina, U.S., Wednesday 13 is a singer and musician best known as the frontman of Murderdolls and for his solo career.
He started his career as a guitarist. He joined his first band, Mizery, in 1992. The band, which changed its name to Psycho Opera, also featured vocalist Todd Cage, guitarist Abby Normal, bass guitarist Michael Patrick, and drummer Jeff Washam.
The same year, along with Abby Normal and Michael Patrick, he left the band and formed Maniac Spider Trash (lineup: Wednesday 13 (vocals), Abby Normal (guitar), Michael Patrick (bass guitar), Sicko Zero (drums)).
They released their first EP, Dumpster Mummies, in 1994. One year later, they recorded the album Murder Happy Fairytales. However, the album was only released in October 2010, fifteen years after being recorded.
The band broke up in 1996, and Wednesday 13, Abby Normal and Sicko Zero went on to form Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13. The band's lineup changed several times over the year, Wednesday 13 being the only constant member of the band. The band performed from 1996 to 2002 and released four studio albums and one EP, all written and produced by Wednesday 13. The band also played on tribute albums for Sweet, and Alice Cooper.
The band broke up in early 2002 after that Wednesday 13 was asked by Joey Jordison to join Murderdolls, the band he had formed with Tripp Eisen. Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 reformed in 2005 and toured with Alice Cooper but they broke up again in 2006 after releasing Little Box of Horrors, a box set of their entire discography.
Wednesday 13 joined Murderdolls as a bassist in November 2001, when the band was still called the Rejects.
Soon after, he became their frontman and the band changed its name to Murderdolls.
Murderdolls released their debut EP, Right to Remain Violent, not long before releasing the album Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls released on August 20 2002 (lineup: Wednesday 13 (lead vocals, bass guitar), Joey Jordison (rhythm guitar, bass guitar, drums, backing vocals), Tripp Eisen (lead guitar, backing vocals)).
Later the same year, the band was joined by bassist Eric Griffin and drummer Ben Graves, and Tripp Eisen was replaced by Acey Slade after he left to return to his main band, Static-X.
On January 17 2004, Murderdolls played their last show before going on an indefinite hiatus.
Two months later, along with the members of Death Becomes You, Wednesday 13 went on a solo tour, the Graveyard A Go-Go tour, in the United Kingdom.
After the tour, he came back to North Carolina to find permanent musicians with whom he would perform as Wednesday 13.
His debut album, Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead, was released in April 2005.
The same year, Wednesday 13 and Rayen Belchere formed an outlaw country band called Bourbon Crow.
The band's first album, Highway to Hangovers, is dedicated to Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, and was released in 2006.
In November 2008, Wednesday 13 released his first live album, Fuck It, We'll Do It Live. The album was recorded during his show at the Crocodile Rock in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on July 18 2008.
In 2009, he teamed up with Todd Youth to form Gunfire 76, a glam metal band. Later the same year, they released the album Casualties & Tragedies.
In 2010, Wednesday 13 and Joey Jordison announced that they would work on a new Murderdolls album together. The said album, Women and Children Last, was released in August 2010 and featured a guest appearance of Mick Mars. On the tour promoting the album, Murderdolls supported several acts such as Guns N' Roses, Rob Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne, and Alice Cooper (lineup on the tour: Wednesday 13 (lead vocals), Roman Surman (lead guitar, backing vocals), Joey Jordison (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Jack Tankersley (bass guitar), Racci Shay (drums)).
The band broke up for good in 2011.
Through the years, Wednesday 13 kept on working as a solo artist and he released his sixth studio album, Monsters of the Universe: Come Out and Plague, in January 2015 (lineup: Wednesday 13 (lead vocals, guitar), Roman Surman (guitar, backing vocals), Jack Tankersley (guitar, backing vocals), Troy Doebbler (bass guitar, backing vocals), Jason West (drums)).
