Happy birthday, Johnny Colt...
Born Charles Brandt on May 1 1966 in Cherry Point, North Carolina, U.S., Johnny Colt is a bassist.
He is known as the original bassist of The Black Crowes. Actually, he joined the band in 1989, after they had changed their name from Mr. Crowe's Garden to The Black Crowes (lineup in 1989: Chris Robinson (vocals), Rich Robinson (guitar), Jeff Cease (guitar), Johnny Colt (bass), Steve Gorman (drums)).
In 1990, the band released its debut album, Shake Your Money Maker, which received multi-platinum certification.
The following year, on August 17, alongside Mötley Crüe, AC/DC, Metallica, and Queensrÿche, The Black Crowes played at the Monsters of Rock festival in Donington, England.
The last The Black Crowes album featuring Johnny, Three Snakes and One Charm, was released on July 23 1996.
In 1997, he left the band and was replaced by Sven Pipien.
In 2000, with David Ryan Harris and Kenny Cresswell, he formed the band Brand New Immortals. The same year, they released an EP, Piston, Protein, Afro-Sheen. The band released only one LP, Tragic Show (2001), before breaking up in 2002.
After Brand New Immortals' breakup, Johnny stayed an active musician as he joined the band Train in 2003 (lineup in 2003: Pat Monahan (lead vocals, harmonica, acoustic guitar), Jimmy Stafford (lead guitar, backing vocals), Johnny Colt (bass), Scott Underwood (drums, percussion), Brandon Bush (keyboards, piano)).
Johnny played on only one Train album, For Me, It's You, which was released in January 2006. He left the band later the same year.
Afterwards leaving Train, he filled in for Jason Newsted, who had been injured while trying to catch a falling bass amp head, in the reality television-formed supergroup Rock Star Supernova (lineup: Lukas Rossi (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Gilby Clarke (lead guitar), Johnny Colt (bass), Tommy Lee (drums)). The band was formed during the second season the Rock Star Reality TV series.
On November 21 2006, Rock Star Supernova made its national television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Along with Tommy Lee, Rob Wonder and DJ MB3, Johnny has made several DJ performances.
He joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2012 (lineup: Johnny Van Zant (vocals), Gary Rossington (lead and rhythm guitars), Rickey Medlocke (lead and rhythm guitars, backing vocals), Mark Matejka (guitars, backing vocals), Johnny Colt (bass), Michael Cartellone (drums), Peter Keys (keyboards)).
Later the same year, the band released its fourteenth studio album, Last of a Dyin' Breed.

Après la séparation de Brand New Immortals, Johnny reste actif en tant que musicien. En effet, en 2003, il rejoint le groupe Train (lineup en 2003 : Pat Monahan (chant, harmonica, guitare acoustique), Jimmy Stafford (lead guitare, choeur), Johnny Colt (basse), Scott Underwood (batterie, percussions), Brandon Bush (claviers, piano)).
Johnny ne joue que sur un seul album de Train; For Me, It's You, sorti en janvier 2006. Il quitte le groupe plus tard la même année.
Après avoir quitté Train, il remplace Jason Newsted, qui s'est blessé en essayant d'attraper un ampli de basse qui tombait, dans le supergroupe de télé-réalité Rock Star Supernova (lineup : Lukas Rossi (chant, guitare rythmique), Gilby Clarke (lead guitare), Johnny Colt (basse), Tommy Lee (batterie)). Le groupe s'est formé lors de la seconde saison de l'émission de télé-réalité Rock Star.
Le 21 novembre 2006, Rock Star Supernova fait sa première apparition sur une chaine nationale lors de l'émission Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Johnny fait de nombreuses performances de DJ aux côtés de Tommy Lee, Rob Wonder et DJ MB3.
Il rejoint Lynyrd Skynyrd en 2012 (lineup : Johnny Van Zant (chant), Gary Rossington (lead guitare et guitare rythmique), Rickey Medlocke (lead guitare et guitare rythmique, choeur), Mark Matejka (guitares, choeur), Johnny Colt (basse), Michael Cartellone (batterie), Peter Keys (claviers)).
