Born William Randall Piper on April 13 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, U.S., Randy Piper is a guitarist and songwriter mostly known as the original guitarist, and co-founder of W.A.S.P..
Elvis Presley was Randy's major inspiration.
Randy started to learn to play guitar whe he was 10.
In 1970, while he was still in high shool, he opened Wheatstone Bridge, a discount record store in Long Beach, California.
He opened Magnum Opus Studios, a rehearsal and recording space, in 1978, in Buena Park, California.
The same year, he met Blackie Lawless at the Starwood Club in Hollywood.
They became friends and commenced recording demos at the Magnum Opus Studio.
Bassist Joey Palemo and drummer Jimi Image joined them, and they formed the band Sister.
In 1979, the band changed its name to Circus Circus. Their first videos were produced at Randy's studio.
Three years later, Circus Circus became W.A.S.P..
They released their debut album, W.A.S.P., in 1984 (lineup: Blackie Lawless (lead vocals, bass), Chris Holmes (lead & rhythm guitars), Randy Piper (lead & rhythm guitars, backing vocals), Tony Richards (drums, backing vocals)).
The band got famous for their very theatrical stage performances. Indeed, there were girls dancing in cages, the band members and their mic stands had chains on them, they threw raw meat into the audience...
On November 9 1985, W.A.S.P. released its second album, The Last Command (lineup: Blackie Lawless (vocals, bass), Chris Holmes (lead & rhythm guitar), Randy Piper (lead & rhythm guitars, backing vocals), Steve Riley (drums, backing vocals)).
Soon after the release of the album, Randy left the band.
In 1988, he formed the band Randy Piper's Animal.
From 1990 to 1993, he played in Kings Horses.
Randy Piper's Animal reunited and released the album 900 Lb Steam in 2002.
The band's most recent album, Virus, was released in 2008.
