Born James Richard Southworth on February 9 1966 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, US, Rachel Bolan is a bassist and songwriter. He is mostly known as the bassist and main songwriter of Skid Row.
He took the stage name Bolan as a tribute to Marc Bolan.
Rachel Bolan and Dave Sabo founded Skid Row in 1986. They both are the only remaining members from the original lineup (Skid Row's original lineup: Matt Fallon (lead vocals), Dave Sabo (lead guitar), Jim Yuhaz (rhythm guitar), Rachel Bolan (bass), John Ratkowski Jr. (drums)).
Skid Row's first two albums, Skid Row (1989) and Slave to the Grind (1991), both went multi platinium (classic lineup (1987-1996): Sebastian Bach (lead vocals), Dave Sabo (lead and rhythm guitars), Scotti Hill (rhythm and lead guitars), Rachel Bolan (bass), Rob Affuso (drums)).
In 1989, he appeared as vocalist on Ace Frehley's solo album, Trouble Walkin', and as backing vocalist on Mötley Crüe's album, Dr Feelgood.
In 1996, Sebastian Bach was fired of the band after an argument with Rachel.
In 1998, With singer Shawn McCabe, guitarists Dave Sabo and Scotti Hill and drummer Rob Affuso, he played in the band Ozone Monday.
In 1999, Skid Row reformed with a new singer, Johnny Solinger.
On April 16, 2013, Skid Row released the EP United World Rebellion: Chapter One (lineup : Johnny Solinger (lead vocals), Dave Sabo (guitars, backing vocals), Scotti Hill (guitars, backing vocals), Rachel Bolan (bass, backing vocals) and Rob Hammersmith (drums)).
