Born Patricia Mae Andrzejewski on January 10 1953 in Brooklyn, New York, U.S., Pat Benatar is a singer.
She is a mezzo-soprano.
When she was a kid, she was interested in theater and took singing lessons. She sang her first solo when she was eight (a song called It Must Be Spring).
In order to attend the Juilliard School (performing arts conservatory), she trained as a coloratura but finally decided to pursue health education instead. It was a surprise for her family and her friends.
When she was 19, she dropped out University and married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Benatar.
In 1973, after seeing a concert of Liza Minnelli, she quit her job as a bank teller to start a singing career.
She released her first album, In the Heat of the Night, in 1979. It featured her breakthrough hit, Heartbreaker.
In 1980, she released the single Hit Me with Your Best Shot, which was her first single to break the US Top 10.
The same year, she won her first Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
In 1987, in Europe, she released Best Shots, a greatest hits album, which went platinium. In 1989, she released an updated version of the album in North America.
Pat was the first female artist to perform on MTV.
During her career, she won four Grammy Awards.
In 2003, she released the album Go.
In 2009, she toured with Blondie on the Call Me Invincible Tour.
Her memoir, Between a Heart and a Rock Place, was released in June 2010.
In 2014, she toured with John Waite, Rick Springfield, and Cheap Trick for her 35th Anniversary tour.
