Happy birthday, Lars Ulrich...
Born December 26, 1963 in Gentofte, Denmark, Lars Ulrich is a drummer and one of the founding members of American heavy metal band Metallica.
lineup:
Current members: James Hetfield (lead vocals, rhythm guitar (1981–present)), Lars Ulrich (drums (1981–present)), Kirk Hammett (lead guitar, backing vocals (1983–present)), Robert Trujillo (bass, backing vocals (2003–present)).
Former members: Dave Mustaine (lead guitar, backing vocals (1982–1983)), Ron McGovney (bass (1982)), Cliff Burton (bass, backing vocals (1982–1986; died 1986)), Jason Newsted (bass, backing vocals (1986–2001)).
Studio recording members: Bob Rock (bass (2002-2003)).
In February 1973, Lars and his father went to a concert of Deep Purple (lineup: Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover, Ian Paice) in a Copenhagen stadium.
The nine-year-old Lars was most impressed with Deep Purple's performance and bought the band's Fireball album the next day.
The concert and the album had a considerable impact on him, inspiring his entrance into the world of rock and roll and later of heavy metal.
He started playing drum at the age of twelve.
Ulrich originally intended to play tennis as his former tennis pro father, and that's why he moved to Los Angeles in 1980.
In 1981, Lars discovered the band Diamond Head (lineup: Sean Harris, Brian Tatler, Colin Kimberley, Duncan Scott).
He was so excited about the band's style of music after purchasing its debut album Lightning to the Nations (1980) that he traveled from San Francisco to London to see the band perform live at the Woolwich Odeon.
Upon returning to America, he placed an ad in a local newspaper looking for musicians to start a band with him.
James Hetfield replied to the ad and Metallica was formed.
He became known as a pioneer of fast thrash drum beats, featured on many of Metallica's early songs, such as Metal Militia from Kill 'Em All, Fight Fire with Fire from Ride the Lightning, Battery and Damage Inc. from Master of Puppets and Dyers Eve from ...And Justice for All.
He has since been considerably influential due to both the popularity of his band, as well as his drum techniques, such as the double bass drum in the song One (...And Justice for All) and the opening of Enter Sandman (Metallica).
Since the release of Metallica, Lars adopted a less focused and simplified style of drumming, and reduced his kit from a 9-piece to a 7-piece.
To conclude, we wish a happy birthday and years of rock to Lars Ulrich!

[french version :
Joyeux anniversaire, Lars Ulrich ...
Lineup :
Membres actuels : James Hetfield (lead vocals, rhythm guitar (1981–present)), Lars Ulrich (drums (1981–present)), Kirk Hammett (lead guitar, backing vocals (1983–present)), Robert Trujillo (bass, backing vocals (2003–present)).
Anciens membres: Dave Mustaine (lead guitar, backing vocals (1982–1983)), Ron McGovney (bass (1982)), Cliff Burton (bass, backing vocals (1982–1986; died 1986)), Jason Newsted (bass, backing vocals (1986–2001)).
And Justice for All).
And Justice for All) et l'intro de "Enter Sandman" (Metallica).
