Happy birthday, Brian Johnson
Happy birthday, Brian Johnson...
Born on October 5 1947 in Dunston, Gateshead, England, Brian Johnson is a singer and lyricist. He is best known for having been the lead singer of AC/DC.
When he was young, he performed in some shows with the Scouts.
In 1970, he joined a cabaret/club band called The Jasper Hart Club.
With other members of the band, he formed Geordie (Brian Johnson (lead vocals), Vic Malcolm (lead guitar), Tom Hill (bass guitar) and Brian Gibson (drums)).
After Bon Scott's death, AC/DC members considered quiting. Eventually, they concluded that Scott would have wanted the band to continue.
The band considered various candidates like Buzz Shearman, Terry Slesser and Noddy Holder for his replacement.
Later, Angus Young said the first time he had heard about Johnson was from Bon Scott who had seen him playing with Geordie.
It was Angus and Malcom's idea to contact Johnson.
Johnson, as a big fan of AC/DC, was happy to oblige.
When they first met him, the members of AC/DC (Angus and Malcom Young, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd) were impressed by his performance (Johnson sang Whole Lotta Rosie and Nutbush City Limits).
One week after Johnson officially joined the band (April 1 1980), he rejoined the band members to work on the album Back in Black.
Back in Black, released in July 1980, is the second best-selling album of all time (about 50 million copies sold worldwide).
The following album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You (1981), sold well too.
Flick of the Switch (1983) and Fly on the Wall (1985) were not as commercially successful.
AC/DC regained popularity with the album Who Made Who (1986), which was the soundtrack for the horror movie Maximum Overdrive.
The last album featuring lyrics written by Johnson is Blow Up Your Video (1988). All the new AC/DC material is written by Angus and Malcom Young.
Johnson, who is a big fan of musical theatre, has worked on a musical version of Helen of Troy with choreographer Robert de Warren (from Sarasota Ballet).
In 2006, he participated in The Race (car racing reality television series).
AC/DC's lastest album, Black Ice, was released in 2008.
In March 2016, Brian found out he was suffering severe hearing issues and that he had to stop performing or he would risk complete hearing loss. According to him, his hearing issues started after he forgot to wear ear plugs during a car race. The loud noises from the race punctered his left ear drum.
ACDC chose Axl Rose to fill in for Brian for the remainder of the Rock or Burst Tour.
To conclude, we wish a happy birthday and years of rock to Brian Johnson!

Joyeux anniversaire, Brian Johnson ...

L'album suivant, For Those About to Rock We Salute You (1981), se vendit bien aussi.
Flick of the Switch (1983) et Fly on the Wall (1985) n'eurent pas autant de succès.
