Happy birthday, Yngwie Malmsteen...
Born Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck on June 30 1963 in Stockholm, Sweden, Yngwie Johan Malmsteen is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter.
Steve Huey of Allmusic said "Yngwie Malmsteen is arguably the most technically accomplished hard rock guitarist to emerge during the '80s."
At the age of 10, Yngwie and a classmate of his created his first band, Track on Earth.
When he was a teenager, classical music highly influenced him. He was mostly influenced by 19th century virtuoso violinist composer Niccolò Paganini. He also said Brian May and Uli Jon Roth are significant influences for him but his most important influence is Ritchie Blackmore.
When Malmsteen was 18 (1982), Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records took him to the US after hearing a demo tape of his playing from the 1978 titled Demo Powerhouse.
He plays guitar on Alcatrazz' debut album, No Parole from Rock 'n' Roll, released in 1984 (lineup then : Graham Bonnet (vocals), Yngwie Malmsteen (guitar), Gary Shea (bass), Jan Uvena (drums) and Jimmy Waldo (keyboards)).
In 1984, he released his first album solo, which was originally supposed to be only an instrumental side-project of Alcatrazz, Rising Force. He left Alcatrazz soon after the remease of Rising Force.
He released his third album, Trilogy, with Mark Boals on vocals, in 1986. Malmsteen also plays the bass on this album.
The next year, Bob Daisley (bassist) and former Rainbow singer Joe Lynn Turner joined the band.
The same year, he smashed his V12 Jaguar E-Type into a tree, putting himself in coma for a week and damaging a nerve in his right hand.
He released his fourth album, Odyssey, in April 1988.
Malmsteen's signature Fender Stratocaster guitar was released in late 1988 (Malmsteen and Eric Clapton are the first artists to be honored by Fender).
He released nine albums in the 90s (Eclipse (1990), The Yngwie Malmsteen Collection (1991), Fire & Ice (1992), The Seventh Sign (1994), Magnum Opus (1995), Inspiration (1996), Facing the Animal (1997), Double LIVE! (1998) and Alchemy (1999)).
In 2003, he joined the supergroup G3 (a tour showcasing guitar performances) with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
His lastest album, Spellbound, was released in 2012.
To conclude, we wish a happy birthday and years of rock to Yngwie Malmsteen!

Joyeux anniversaire, Yngwie Malmsteen ...
Il sorti neuf albums durant les années 90 (Eclipse (1990), The Yngwie Malmsteen Collection (1991), Fire & Ice (1992), The Seventh Sign (1994), Magnum Opus (1995), Inspiration (1996), Facing the Animal (1997), Double LIVE!
