Born Catherine Bush on 30 July 1958 in Bexleyheath, England, Kate Bush is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer.
She's one of the United Kingdom's most successful solo female performers of the past 35 years.
In 1978, at the age of 19, Bush topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights" (recorded and produced with the Pink Floyd David Gilmour's help.
She became the first woman to have a UK number one with a self-written song.
She has released ten albums between 1978 and 2011.
Her best-known songs (UK Top 10 hits) are "Wuthering Heights" (1978), "The Man with the Child in His Eyes"(1978), "Babooshka" (1980), "Running Up that Hill" (1985), "King of the Mountain" (2005) and "Don't Give Up" (1986), a duet with Peter Gabriel.
In 1987, she won a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist.
In 2002, she won an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.
Her only concert tour of her career was in 1979.
Kate Bush was appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to music.
