Happy birthday, Steve Conte...
Born on September 23 1960 in New York, U.S., Steve Conte is a singer and musician.
He began to be known in the music industry as the guitarist and songwriter of Company of Wolves, whose eponymous debut album was released in 1990.
A couple of years later, Steve formed the band Crown Jewels with his brother, John Conte. Their debut album, Spitshine, was released in 1996.
In 1998, Company of Wolves released Shakers and Tambourines, and Crown Jewels released Linoleum. Company of Wolves disbanded not long after.
In 2003, Steve and his brother began a new project called The Contes, and released the album Bleed Together.
The following year, he joined the New York Dolls for their reunion organized by Morrissey. Their first shows were two sold out shows at the Meltdown Festival in London in June 2004 (lineup: David Johansen (vocals, harmonica), Steve Conte (lead guitar), Sylvain Sylvain (rhythm guitar), Arthur Kane (bass), Gary Powell (drums), Brian Koonin (keyboards)). The shows were recorded and released as the live album Morrissey Presents: The Return Of New York Dolls Live From Royal Festival Hall, and on DVD.
However, the future of the band soon seemed compromised after their bassist Arthur Kane passed away on July 13 2004.
In 2005, the New York Dolls began working on a new album. Released in 2006, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This is the band's third studio album and first release of new original material since 1974 (lineup: David Johansen (vocals, harmonica), Steve Conte (lead guitar), Sylvain Sylvain (rhythm guitar), Sami Yaffa (bass), Brian Delaney (drums), Brian Koonin (keyboards)).
Later the same year, the band embarked on a UK tour and then headlined Little Steven's Underground Garage Presents the Rolling Rock and Roll Show, a 20-show tour featuring several other bands.
In November 2008, the band announced they had begun working on a new album which would be followed by a world tour. The album, Cause I Sez So, was produced by Todd Rundgren, who had also produced their self-titled debut album in 1973, and was released in May 2009.
In 2009, Steve also formed the band Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth and released a self-titled debut album.
The following year, he left the New York Dolls to join Michael Monroe's new solo band (lineup: Michael Monroe (lead vocals, harmonica, saxophone), Ginger (guitars, vocals), Steve Conte (guitars, vocals), Sami Yaffa (bass, vocals), Karl Rosqvist (drums, percussion)).
On June 7 2010, the band played a show at Tavastia Club in Helsinki, Finland, which was recorded and released as Michael Monroe's first live album, Another Night In the Sun: Live in Helsinki, in October 2010.
Later the same year, Michael Monroe and his band entered the studio to record his sixth studio album, Sensory Overdrive. Released in March 2011, the album reached number 13 in the UK Rock Chart.
Another album, Horns and Halos, was released a couple of years later, in August 2013. The album reached gold in only four days in Finland.
In September 2014, Steve released his debut solo album, Steve Conte NYC Album.
The following year, Michael Monroe and his band released the album Blackout States (lineup: Michael Monroe (vocals, harmonica, saxophone), Steve Conte (guitars, vocals), Rich Jones (guitars, vocals), Sami Yaffa (bass, vocals), Karl Rosqvist (drums, percussion)).
Steve currenlty still plays guitar in Michael Monroe's band. On October 5 2016, the band will embark on the Rock Like Fuck Tour.
