Happy birthday, Richie Ramone...
Born Richard Reinhardt on August 11 1957 in Passaic, New Jersey, US, Richie Ramone is a musician and songwriter mostly known as the drummer of the Ramones.
He joined the Ramones in late 1982 or early 1983 to replace Marky Ramone (lineup in 1983: Joey Ramone (lead vocals), Johnny Ramones (guitar), Dee Dee Ramone (bass, vocals), Richie Ramone (drums, vocals)).
Richie Ramone played on the albums Too Tough to Die (1984), Animal Boy (1986) and Halfway to Sanity (1987). He also appears on the compilation albums Loud, Fast Ramones: Their Toughest Hits and Weird Tales of the Ramones, and on the live DVD It's Alive 1974-1996.
He wrote some songs for the Ramones including Somebody Put Something in My Drink, I'm Not Jesus, Smash You...
He was the only Ramones drummer to sing lead vocals on some songs like Can't Say Anything Nice (which he wrote).
He performed over 500 shows with the Ramones all over the world. He was really appreciated by fans from South America.
In August 1987, he left the band, allegedly because of a dispute over money with Johnny Ramone.
Clem Burke took the name of Elvis Ramone and replaced him for two shows. After that, Marky Ramone rejoined the band.
In August 2007, he began a classical composition entitled "Suite for Drums and Orchestra" with the Pasadena Symphony and Pops.
In 2011, with Tommy Ramone and Marky Ramone, he attended the ceremony where the Ramones were awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2012, with the Canadian puknk rock band The Rock n Roll Rats, he recorded a five songs EP.
He played on Joey Ramone's second solo album, Ya Know?, which was released posthumously on May 22, 2012.
Richie Ramone released his first solo album, Entitled, on October 8 2013.
